Whats so good about the books?
is it the way they are written or the way they are presented to us in an old language?

Oh my word. There are lots of reasons why the books are better. For one, they are original. Jackson left out and changed a lot for his movies, which annoyed me. Sure movies can't be perfect, but there was a LOT of things altered or removed. Also, the books present you with the characters thoughts and feelings.
I have never liked movies based on books better than the books themselves. The books are a much more fullfilling experience.

The movies were awesome, and I'm not just saying that because I am a Kiwi. It was kind of annoying how he left out Tom Bombadil and the barrow whites (can't remember if thats the right spelling or not), and the Scouring of the Shire though. Anyways, this thread isn't about the movies.... I reckon they are interesting because they are original, and well thought out. A lot of research went into that book. There is also aspects from lots of different religions, such as: Norse, Greek, Tuetonic, and many others that I can't remember off the top of my head. They are very interesting books. ;D

The books are so original. Tolkien basically started off all these fantasy books nowadays. His idea of combining different races in Middle-Earth is brilliant. I like how he gave each race different characteristics. Tolkien is a great writer!
